Club History

The Cooloola BMX Club was started in 1988 with riders racing on a track out at Mothar Mountain while work was started on building a track at the One Mile Ovals.

A lot of volunteer work done by hard working dedicated committee members, parents and riders and the generosity of local businesses providing equipment and support went into turning what was once waste land into a very competitive track. Despite all efforts the first two attempted race meetings were thwarted by wet weather and eight metres of water being over the track due to flooding. Finally on Saturday 21st April, 1989 a field of 33 riders contested the first BMX race meeting to be held at the Cooloola BMX track.

The Club was officially opened on Saturday 18th November of that year by Member for Wide Bay, Clarrie Millar. Gympie's Mayor, Joan Dodt, and Member for Gympie, Len Stephan were also in attendance to present riders from Cooloola, Kingaroy, Maryborough, Nambour, Bundaberg and Ipswich with their trophies.

General Information

Cooloola BMX Club holds its race meetings every Friday night of each month, except public and school holidays. Nomination on race nights closes at 6:45pm and racing starts strictly at 7:00pm. Race meetings will cost $5 per rider or $12 per family of 3 or more riders. To be able to race, riders must become a financial member of the Cooloola BMX Club and apply for a BMX Australia Licence.

All riders have to be members of a BMX Club for licensing purposes. Membership with the Cooloola BMX Club is $20 per annum for a single rider and $35 per annum for a family. This money goes towards the upkeep of our track, buying race sheets and trophies for the round robin point system, and other things to help run successful race events.


Racing Format

Our Club races under a DIVISIONS System. This is to ensure that each rider is placed in a group according to their ability. There is opportunity to advance to higher groups as the rider’s skill develops.


Points in our Club are run in a Round Robin Series. For a rider to gain points and be in the running for various trophies, they must complete at least 4 race nights out of that Round. We do 4 Rounds per year. At the end of each Round, Awards will be handed out.

We hold a General Meeting once a month. This is now the second Monday night of the month, held in the BMX Shed. Starting time 7pm. Bring a chair. Everyone is most welcomed to attend and to put forward any ideas that they have for the running of our club.
